Activities Eastney Beach

Updated: Mar 26, 2023

[INT] The western part of Eastney beach which is a part of our site is a very interesting part of the beach with a wide variety of activities throughout the year. It is currently winter season and I have been observing only this part of the year myself, I have visited the place around springtime as well but only to walk past it. A while ago I was witnessing a bonfire close to the part of the beach. I have also seen paddle boards and some sort of hydrofoil surfboard that you jump on to move forward. I would say that summertime is the busiest season of them all. I know that our part of the beach is a nudist beach as well, so there are many people to come and swim there too. I will add more points to the list when I find out about more activities.

Winter:

  • Dog Walking

  • Running

  • Swimming

  • Training dogs inside the guarded area

  • Boat traffic

Spring:

  • Bonfire

  • Dog Walking

  • Running

  • Simming

  • Sitting on the beach socializing with friends or family

  • Training dogs inside the guarded area

  • Boat traffic

  • Flowers and animals start to "wake up"

Summer:

  • Swimming

  • Paddleboarding

  • Hydrofoil surfboard

  • Dog Walking

  • Running

  • Sitting on the beach socializing with friends or family

  • Training dogs inside the guarded area

  • Boat traffic

  • High season for flower and animal activity

Autumn:

  • Bonfire

  • Dog Walking

  • Running

  • Swimming

  • Sitting on the beach socializing with friends or family

  • Training dogs inside the guarded area

  • Boat traffic

  • Flowers and animals "go to sleep" for the winter

Activities that are consistent throughout the year:

  • Dog Walking

  • Running

  • Swimming (Even though it is very different, in the winter there are not many people swimming but there are a few that enjoy a winter swim.)

  • Training dogs inside the guarded area

  • Boat traffic

I was reading on the Cheeky Beaches (Beaches, n.d.) website about the perspective of the naturists coming to swim there. They say overall it is a good place to go swimming but it is now possibly threatened by the developers that bought the lad of Fraser range (MOD) area that wants to build residential buildings there. The seafront masterplan can be seen here:

Other distractions they found were the boats passing by are not pretty things but besides that, there is nice scenery. They also explain it as: "...well-located, clean, tidy and loved by many." (Beaches, n.d.) Water quality is described as: "Generally speaking very clean considering its proximity to a large city and sea-faring traffic." (Beaches, n.d.)

When it comes to safety they say: "Eastney Beach is considered safe, with no unusual currents and no risk of rock falls from behind. The beach is very popular and while some younger people may be loud and boisterous, there are so many people around it is rare for behaviour to get out of hand. Water quality for Eastney is considered excellent and is tested regularly. The beach is cleaned daily during peak season." (Beaches, n.d.)
